Vedic Astrology Demystified: Discovering the Science Behind the Stars

Vedic Science is a holistic science, it comprises everything within its fold. This is so because the Vedas and the Vedic Literature are the expression of cosmic consciousness. Jyotish, being the science of cosmic consciousness, is also a holistic science. Pure consciousness is that level of reality which the ancient Vedic Science describes as “anoranyan, mahato mahiyan” – that which is smaller than the smallest and bigger than the biggest. It is the omnipresent field of cosmic intelligence – the field of Jyotish.

Jyotish, in Sanskrit, literally translates to “Science of Light. One of the six limbs of Vedas is Vedic astrology (Rig Veda) and this knowledge is eternal and always relevant. Its like connecting dots in the sky to create a beautiful picture of one’s life soul purpose, Karmic patterns and more.

Without astrology, without understanding the significance of the movements of the heavens, the celestial bodies relative to our lives, there can be no true or integral knowledge. Our relationship with the stars mirrors our relationship with the cosmos and shows secrets of our psyche and Inner self.

Astrology is a tool in our spiritual development or consciousness evolution – not just an indicator for predictions! Jyotish gives a practical demonstration of the abstract truths contained in Vedanta, saying that the Jiva is Brahman and nothing else. Ralph Waldo Emerson, the celebrated philosopher of 19th century America used to say: “The universe is the externalisation of the soul”. This is corroborated by Vedic sciences.

For ease & simplification, Astrology can be divided into four methods (there are more):

  1. Maharishi Parashar method – the most commonly & widely used
  2. Jaimini Maharishi method
  3. Tajika method
  4. Bhrigu Nadi method

The Karma is the basis of astrology. Planetary Planets don’t decide our destiny however, our destiny has decided the placements of our planets!! “As ye sow, so shall ye reap”.
